Our Trip to Melody Bay, a Parkbridge Resort Community #Parkbridgelife #glamping

With a sigh, I realize that we are about to close the chapter called Summer 2015.  I am not ready to say farewell to what has been a really great summer.  We've had so much family fun together that I was not ready to hand my children back to their teachers.    I always tell my children to  remember this day  throughout the summer, as I want them to have loads of good childhood memories.  Our most recent  remember this day/these days  was at Melody Bay, Parkbridge Resorts.  Melody Bay is located near Buckhorn, Ontario in the Kawarthas.

It was our first visit to that part of Ontario, and boy - was it ever a treat!  Melody Bay is an absolutely gorgeous area, where the air is fresh and the trees grow tall.  Nestled right in against the bay is the resort and all its amenities.  The resort is a community full of residents who have made this their summer home, or their summer home away from home.  It houses many snowbirds who enjoy wintering in the south and then back to Ontario for the summer months.  Melody Bay Resort offers it's residents an extra long cottaging season from April 1st right through to November.  (I can only imagine that the Fall foliage would be vibrant at Melody Bay.)   Melody Bay is not a trailer park, but rather a cottage community, they do not offer transient sites.  Yet, they have two rental cottages, one of which we stayed in for our visit.

Our visit was unique in that it was our daughter's ninth birthday on our arrival day.  She was so excited to return to a Parkbridge Resort and spend her birthday weekend.  Last year we visited Our Ponderosa, which the children remember fondly as a lot of fun. So, we were anticipating more fun would be had at Melody Bay.

The cottage that was ours for the weekend was located right at the entrance of the community.  I noticed right away how friendly and courteous people were entering and exiting.  One friendly resident even pulled over to show our children her pet rabbit on the front seat next to her, as she saw us out eating our dinner on our deck.   Our two bedroom cottage was immaculately clean and neat and very comfortable.   We brought a long our own bedding, towels, food and firewood, and everything else was provided.
Melody Bay Resort has two salt water, heated pools to enjoy.  One pool is non-splashing, and the other is perfect for kids who love to play.  The resort provides pool toys for your enjoyment while there and one of the residents takes care of the pool area, including keeping the toys contained.  Being right on the shoreline, Melody Bay was perfect for kayaking.  We brought our own kayaks from home and they were used several times over our weekend.  We were invited to leave our kayaks outside the office while they weren't in use, which made it so easy to go for a paddle when the mood struck.

Our family's favourite holiday and reason to celebrate is Halloween.  And, it just so happened that it was Halloween at Melody Bay Resort while we were there!  I knew that it was Halloween weekend from checking Parkbridge Resorts facebook page, and lucked out that there was even some Halloween candy available for purchase in one of our local stores.  I took my Halloween candy dish, some bags of candy/chocolate and organized a couple of quick costumes.  The resort had a great haunted house for children to visit, and then children were invited to trick or treat around the resort.  My kids came back with big bags of treats!  It was awesome to see the whole community take part in this fun event.

We loved our stay at Melody Bay so much that we are planning a return visit next summer for a whole week.  The resort is beautifully  kept and has such a great community vibe.  One thing we noticed right away was a lack of security gates, or security guards.  We were told that there wasn't any need for either at Melody Bay Resort.  The cottage accommodations are lovely, with comfy beds, a large washroom, fully stocked kitchen and a cozy living space.  The kids loved every moment and not once did I hear them utter that they were bored, and in my books (at the end of August)that is a very good sign!

Thank you to Parkbridge Resorts for hosting our family.
