Consider Cinnamon to Keep Blood Sugar Levels in Check #ONatural

November 17th marked World Diabetes Day, do you realize that there are 30 Million people in North America who are living with diabetes?  The number is staggering to me, and hits close to home.  My husband is diagnosed as Pre-Diabetic.  As, a result we monitor is blood by daily home-testing and he has seen a dietician to help him change his eating habits.  We are definitely on the lucky side, to have caught his predisposition to diabetes before he was full-blown.  With a little effort and awareness we can hopefully be able to keep it under control.

As I read in this month's edition of O Natural, the World Health Organization is recommending that people keep their sugar consumption below 5% of total daily calories in order to improve overall health.  As my husband's  dietician noted and as  O Natural newsletter shares, there are ways to control blood sugar levels and there are ways to help reduce the risk of developing diabetes.

Consider Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a powerful spice.   Not only does it add great taste, it also offers health benefits.  One benefit being that it helps to control blood sugar.  Since my husband, works straight night shift, I am sure that his work schedule wreaks havoc on his blood sugar.  This is where Orange Naturals ND Shake for Men has come into play. I am convinced that drinking a smoothie at the beginning of his work day (9pm) helps him get through his shift without that inevitable crash that comes with working overnight.    He has been a tad bit resistant and hasn't quite embraced smoothies like I was hoping for, so with a bit of tweaking, we've come up with what seems to work best for him.  Raspberries are his favourite fruit and lemonade is his go-to drink.  Put them together in a smoothie and he is one happy guy. 

Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie {with ND Shake for Men}

1 cup raspberries (fresh or frozen)
1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
2 scoops of Orange Naturals ND Shake for Men (chocolate flavour)
Splash of Lemonade


Place the raspberries in a deep cup.  (I use a 2 cup measuring cup)
Add yogurt and ND Shake for Men.
Pour lemonade to cover the fruit. (Add more or less to reach desired smoothie consistency)
Mix with a hand blender until combined. 

Garnish and enjoy!
