A Day of Family Fun at Scenic Caves Nature Adventures {contest information at the end of this post}

Having two children who have summer birthdays, is awesome.  It's funny, when I was a kid I always felt badly for other kids who had summer birthdays, and then it ended up that 2 out of my 3 kids were born in the summer months.  Summer birthdays lend themselves to adventure and fun outdoors.  As the children have gotten older we try to find somewhere special to go and explore on each of their birthdays.  This year my son turned eleven and he had an awesome day celebrating at Scenic Caves Nature Adventures

When visiting Scenic Caves Nature Adventures come prepared to spend a whole day in absolutely breath-taking natural wonder and beauty.  The air is fresh, the views are amazing and the smiles (on my children's faces) were endless.

Scenic Caves Nature Adventures offers family fun - there is something for everyone there.  My family spent the majority of the time exploring the caves and trails.  My husband and children took a couple of hours and climbed the Niagara Escarpment and experienced spectacular lookout views along the way.  Then, they descended down into the caves.

The caves offer an opportunity to learn about a part of our history that shouldn't be forgotten - I love that seeing the caves was so interesting that the kids wanted to find out more about the formation of caves upon return to home.

Wearing running or hiking shoes are a must for anyone who wishes to check out the caves, caverns and trails. It can be challenging in places and is not suitable for people who might have medical or mobility issues, or small children.

When spending the day at Scenic Caves Nature Adventures, the fun doesn't end after you've conquered the caves & trails.   If your brave enough check out the Thunderbird Twin Zip Line.  The zip line is accessed via the trails leading up the escarpment.  It is Canada's longest twin zip line.  There are weight and age restrictions to ride the zip line and children between the ages of 10 - 15 must zip alongside an adult.

Our next stop was the 420' Suspension Bridge.   To get out to the bridge visitors can either walk or if you are like my family (who were rather tired from exploring the caves) you can hitch a wagon ride.  Experiencing the Suspension Bridge is well worth it.  The views are spectacular and seeing and walking upon the bridge is like no other bridge we've ever been on before.   The bridge swings and sways as you walk across.

The time between wagon runs gave us ample time to go across the bridge and back again.  Our next stop was Gemstone Mining - which is a fun activity for the kids.  My children were both so excited to give panning a try and loved finding their treasures in the sand.   Gemstone Mining is centrally located right inside the gates (you don't have to go into the caves to do this activity).

And, there is more.... Scenic Caves Nature Adventures is truly a full day event.  In addition to what I've mentioned, there is mini golf to play, a treetop canopy walk, a playground, trout pond, picnic and snack area and a train ride for the wee ones.

We had a great time together spending time as a family and being outdoors celebrating our son's birthday at Scenic Caves Nature Adventures.

Scenic Caves Nature Adventures is located at 260 Scenic Caves Drive, Collingwood, Ontario.  It is open year round - hours depend upon the season.  Admission rates are dependent on what you are wanting to do while visiting.

We think Scenic Caves Nature Adventures is a pretty fabulous place to visit in the summer time, and think it would really be amped up in the Fall when the leaves are turning colours.  Maybe you might like to visit in the Fall as well.  If so, be sure to enter Fall Adventure Overnight GetawayHurry and get your entry in as this contest ends Sept 1st.

I've posted more photos from our day at Scenic Caves Nature Adventures on my facebook page.    Visit Scenic Caves on facebook and on twitter.   We would like to thank Scenic Caves Nature Adventures for hosting my family for the day.  All opinions expressed are those of this blog.
