Why we downloaded React Mobile to our cell phones

One Sunday afternoon, last Fall, I was happily going about my normal Sunday routine - oblivious to the fact that I was about to get a phone call that would rock my world. (and not in a good way)

You see, throughout the afternoon someone had tried to call our home phone, and also my daughter's cell phone.  I've told her not to answer her phone if she doesn't recognize the number calling in.  And, I tend to do the same with our home phone.  That afternoon though, this number was repeatedly calling, so after a couple of attempts, I ended up answering - what I was about to hear would paralyze me in fear.

Upon answering, the male voice on the other end asked for my (then) 14 year old daughter.  I asked who was calling and was informed it was Officer XX from the OPP and he feared for my daughter's safety.  He then began to tell me that a concerned neighbour had called them with a report of a suspicious vehicle following my daughter earlier in the week.

It turns out that the man in the vehicle did attempt to engage my daughter as she walked down the sidewalk, in fact followed her as she walked.  He would then drive ahead a bit and pull over by the sidewalk a little way further down the road and wait for her.   Of course,  Emily didn't say a word about it, but did admit to be concerned for her safety.  The OPP officer ended the conversation with my daughter telling her to call the police immediately if she saw him again, or finds herself in that kind of situation again.

As a result I insist that my teenaged daughter never leaves the house without her cell phone.   Now, the security which comes with carrying a cell phone, is taken a step further with React  Mobile.

React Mobile is a free download to an iPhone or Android device.

How does our app work? React Mobile  helps you turn your smartphone into a powerful lifeline. The app has a “Follow Me” feature, that let’s your self selected contacts track your whereabouts in real-time whenever you’re concerned for your safety. Perfect for running or walking alone early in the morning or late at night, keeping track of kids, or meeting a client for the first time, simply touch the “I’m Safe” button to let your contacts know when you’ve arrived at your destination safely. In an emergency, press the SOS shield on the app to send out a panic alert containing a link to your GPS location to select emergency contacts via text message and email, which can optionally be posted to Facebook and Twitter. Once the SOS alert is activated, you’re automatically prompted to dial 911.
React Mobile offers peace of mind in everyday situations

I've downloaded the app and it is now on my phone, my daughter's phone and my husband too.  It gives me the peace of mind knowing that Emily can quickly summon for help with a simple swipe.   If she ever encounters that kind of situation she now has the knowledge and the power to protect herself, with React Mobile.

The Follow Me feature allows me to watch my daughter in real time.

I am one of those moms who is apprehensive whenever my children are out of my sight.  Emily doesn't date yet, but I know those days are coming.  She would be highly annoyed by having to call, or text me to tell me she's arrived safely at her destination, yet with React Mobile she can let me know discreetly and effortlessly that all is good.

A sad reality is that young people go missing every day, if they all had the Follow Me feature on their phones, their location would be known.

React Mobile connects us in the case of emergencies

When an emergency does arise, the React Mobile app would allow Emily to summon for assistance immediately by using the SOS button.  The SOS button prompts her to call 911 when an SOS is triggered, and I encourage her to call 911 if she ever feels threatened.  Alternately,  Emily can alert her chosen contacts via text, email, or facebook by silently swiping the React Mobile app on her phone.

Here's how:
  • Add emergency contacts from your existing contact list
  • Press Shield to send SOS alert via SMS/text, email and Facebook with your GPS coordinates.
  • Report an incident with React Mobile group messaging
  • Press & hold shield to deactivate.  Enter 5555 to cancel alert
  • Use “Follow Me” feature to allow friends and family to follow you in real-time
  • Adjust settings to what country you are in & if you need to call emergency authority, it will automatically prompt you to call the appropriate number for that location

Our personal safety is one of those things that should never be taken for granted.   I've often noted to my neighbours that we all need to be diligent of what is going on in our neighbourhood.  I will be encouraging all of my neighbours, friends, and family to download the React Mobile app.

React Mobile provides peace of mind  - which is priceless.

Wow, that call would scare the crap out of any parent.

My phone usually has the data turned off these days, though, after a couple of ridiculously high bills that claimed we'd gone over our 2 gig data limit. Even the $50 limit since imposed on cell companies would be too rich for our budget right now. Fortunately, my kids aren't even school age yet, and they're with me almost 24/7.

How great that you had such a concerned neighbour! And maybe having a call from the police will help your daughter realize she needs to report this kind of thing in the future. Love the idea of this app!

I love this app! It gives you so much freedom! I love that I can track my DH when he goes running and feel safer when I'm alone!

Oh my goodness! My heart leapt out of my chest just reading about your daughters experience. There is no greater fear than a child going missing. Thanks for introducing me to this important app!

That has to be one of the scariest things in the world and with two girls myself, terrifies me to know it could be us one day. I REALLY hope there is something like this available in about 3-4 years when my own oldest will be out and about on her own and will need some kind of security beyond the cell phone. Thank you so much for sharing this IMPORTANT information for all parents of teens and tweens! :)
