Duracell Quantum Powers the Holidays & Smiles! #PGMom #powersmiles {#giveaway, #holidaygiftguide}

Being an at-home mom I kind of take charge of the Christmas shopping/baking & decorating.  I have to say it is one of those tasks which I don't really mind much.  I begin decorating early and add a couple of things each day until the job is done, the same can be said for baking - I'll start making cookies and treats early in November and pop into the freezer.  The majority of my shopping is done online and I try to be finished by the first of December.  Then, throughout the month of December I spend time getting gifts wrapped while the kids are at school.

Then, on Christmas Eve day, without fail my husband will say:

....so, what batteries are needed for tomorrow morning?....

With all the gifts wrapped up for weeks now, who the heck would have any idea!   This year, it's going to be different.  I am going to write down the number of batteries needed and size for each and every gift before I wrap it up.

My husband can shop with a list this coming Christmas Eve day for the right number and size of Duracell batteries, and not just a guess.  Guessing never seems to work out for us - there always seems to be that one toy that we didn't get the correct batteries for.  Which, results in a disappointed child, and no one wants a disappointed child on Christmas morning.

I usually forget about batteries although lately I've been stocking up on them -- I've learned my lesson a few too many times.

When I was a kid, my parents would always forget to buy batteries for my new toys at Christmas...it was always a scramble to find some and usually ended up taking batteries out of TV remotes etc. lol!

If a toy needs batteries, I always buy them at the same time, and leave them in the bag with it. Then when I pull them out to wrap, I just set the batteries aside, (if it for a family member, otherwise, they get wrapped, too). That way there is no searching for batteries.

I keep the batteries on hand. If it's a gift for someone in the house then the batteries are here; if it's a gift for someone else, I include them with the gift.

I head to costco and by batteries to have on hand as we always seem to need batteries for some toy!

Andrea said...

As I wrap, i make a note of what toys need batteries, the number and the size and I make sure that I get enough for the toy plus enough to replace the batteries in each toy 2-3 times. So I basically buy 10 of the big value packs of batteries the week before Christmas, sometimes more lol

I always make sure to have lots of extra batteries of different sizes ready for Christmas morning. When I was a teenager, and before having children of my own, I remember my manager talking about how she forgot to get batteries and her kids couldn't use any of their toys on Christmas morning. For some reason that story really stuck with me, and now that I have a family of my own, I always make it a point to remember to have lots of batteries for Christmas morning! :)

Sue2Sueper said...

I just make sure I have batteries nearby, so they are ready to be popped into the toys right away.

For the toys we give our son and santa leaves we have a stock up pile we buy a few days before and it's the last gift under the tree my son opens.
for gifts we give that require batteries we give them as part of the gift. well hand them to the parents after, kids could care less about batteries.

We buy re-chargeable batteries from the dollar store, so we have a rotating supply - but we stock up on traditional AA and AAA ones for Christmas time. We also give some extras with gifts that require batteries, the kids are good to go, and the parents are very grateful!

I always have extra set of batteries and I do not put any batteries into the toy if I need to open the box otherwise it is better to put it in advance to see how the toy works.

Dianne said...

I used to put batteries in their stockings if they were getting battery operated toys from Santa. A couple years ago my son bought a battery operated toy for his nephew not realizing there were no batteries with the toy. As soon as we finished opening gifts he went out on the search for a store open and an hour later he came in the house with a package. He had to drive half way across the city to find them.

Lisa KH said...

Depending on the packaging of the toy, I either put the batteries in the toy or have them ready to go.

I usually like to have the batteries on hand and once the gift is opened they can be added. However, the gift givers don't always remember their own supply and at times we have been short or swapping from toy to toy. I guess a tip would be: Count/tally as you wrap, what is needed.

Alessandrina said...

There are always batteries in the house. I make sure that we have all kinds. If I were to gift something, I would include the necessary batteries.

Cheers.

Haha, we failed one year by not having any batteries on hand for our daughter's new toys that all seemed to need batteries - she wondered why Santa hadn't thought to bring batteries since he should have known she would need them!! Sigh, luckily we convinced her that he didn't bring any since she didn't ask for them and that he must have assumed we had some. Now we plan ahead and have them ready and waiting - we stock up on what we know we will need, and once she opens her gifts we load 'em up. (and the first year after the mishap Santa did wrap some and deliver them, since she remembered to ask that year...!!).
