Dinner & Dishes {#giveaway} #PGMom

Enter to win the Ultimate Kitchen Prize Pack at the end of this post

As a young girl I remember spending the afternoon with my grandma baking, cooking and doing dishes in her farm kitchen.  These memories are some of my most precious and are the kind which bring me pleasure and sadness.

I miss my grandma (and grandpa) every single day.

After grandma and I had finished with what we were making for the day in the kitchen we would always take a break by resting in grandma's bed.  Beside her bed grandma had piles of cookbooks, magazines and newspaper recipe clippings.  We spent hours looking through recipes and discussing what we would be making next on the agenda.

And, to this day, I take cookbooks to bed with me as my nightly reading.

Back to Basics with Michael Smith

You may be familiar with Food Network's Michael Smith.  We love watching him on the Food Network and over the last couple of weeks, I enjoyed flipping through the pages of this beautiful recipe book.  Michael Smith's Back to Basics  contains 100 simple recipes with a twist.  Last night I made Roast Chicken for my family.

Roast chicken sounded like a nice Fall one-pot-meal that the whole family would enjoy, plus it seemed so simple and easy to put together .  For this recipe of Roast Chicken, the veggies I used were carrots and sweet potatoes, combined with chunks of apple all tossed with cinnamon.

It turned out great!  And, the best part was the left over chicken for sandwiches the next day.

But, then came the clean up

I love one-pot meals for the convenience and for saving on the clean up after the meal. We don't have a dishwasher in our home.  It would be so expensive to install one and both my husband and I grew up in homes without dishwashers, so it isn't something that we are missing.  We do our dishes by hand and there is a lot of pre-rinsing and soaking that goes on around here.  Luckily, we have Dawn Platinum to help get the dishes clean with the least amount of effort.    Dawn helps me get out of the kitchen quickly after supper and get on with life - there's homework to be done, bathes to be given, backpacks to ready, and stories to read!
