After a rocky start, those lazy, hazy days of summer have arrived.
Though, I am not exactly sure who thinks these days are lazy, especially with children. My kids are constantly on the go and wanting to go here or there. Their favourite spot to visit, is the beach, during the summer months. I love it too - I've always been attracted to the lake and love all things nautical.
We are really looking forward to our family vacation at the beach, coming up in a couple of weeks!

Over the next couple of weeks, I will be busy prepping and preparing for us to head off to the cottage. That includes a tonne of laundry, and packing. It also includes gathering all of our beach gear and replenishing anything I can't seem to locate or that has been broken over the winter, while in storage. I learned quite some time ago, not to shop for beach gear at the beach. Prices are always very inflated and selection gets picked over as the summer progresses. Plus, if you are well prepared when arriving, the kids are less likely to be begging for something new. Therefore, saving you money for beach fries or beaver tails!
July 30th is my son's birthday, this year he will be turning 10 years old. His birthday is extra special to me, as he was born on my beloved grandma's birthday. I know she would of been thrilled to have a great-grandson born on the same day. Matthew's birthday also happens to fall during our summer cottage/beach vacation. For the last several years we've enjoyed a wonderful day at the water playing, swimming, taking a break for a special dinner buffet and then back down to the beach for the sunset. Matthew's birthday is one of my absolute favourite days of the year. It is carefree and fun. It doesn't require a lot of money and it's spent at our happy place.
A fun tradition on Matthew's birthday is taking a ride on the beach train. The train runs along the shore line and by the marina. We always try to take the evening ride, just before it is time to find our place to enjoy the sunset.

The kids absolutely love riding the rails, and so do a lot of other people. It is important to claim your seat early on the train, as it fills up fast, and they don't really seem to count the number of tickets sold.

Take time to stock up before going to the beach
Before we depart for the cottage, a stock up trip to Walmart is in order to pick up things like detergent, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies. (More things you just don't buy at a resort area, unless you absolutely have too.) On our latest trip to the store, we also stopped by the seasonal aisles to get what we needed to re-stock our beach bag.
Just ask the kids, it's been a long time coming - I finally bought some new beach towels. Jillian picked up a Justin Bieber towel, and I found a fluffy two-pack of towels. Beach towels were the number one needed re-stock item for our trip.
I also found a fantastic purple tote, so I don't have to use my grocery shopping bags anymore. I was getting a little tired of all the sand in my grocery bags. The kids all purchased sand shoes to protect their feet from sharp pebbles along the shore lines, which they were really excited about.
|All set! Sand shoes, beach towels and a new tote bag. We're off to the beach!|
Now that our beach tote is re-stocked and re-vitalized, all we have to do now is enjoy some lazy, hazy days, lakeside!
