Why I've fallen for my SodaStream

I've coveted a SodaStream for a few years, and I am so excited to share my thoughts & experiences with and about this machine.

About SodaStream

SodaStream is the leading home soda maker, turning tap water into sparkling water in just seconds! SodaStream has over 30 flavors, including diet flavors, teas, cola, fruit flavors and energy drinks

SodaStream is an "Active Green" product, meaning that consumers are actively reducing their CO2 footprint every time they make their own soda or sparkling water at home instead of buying it from the store.

How it looks

The SodaStream Jet Fountain is a sleek, lightweight machine that doesn't require batteries or an electrical cord.     It sits discreetly on the counter and doesn't take up much space (which, I love).  We received a black & silver SodaStream, it fits nicely with the look of our kitchen, as I'm sure it would with pretty much any decor.

Compact and easy to store on the counter

How the SodaStream works

The SodaStream is so simple to use, even my children can successfully make a bottle of soda in about a minute

My starter kit came with some samples of different flavours for us to try, yet, I pretty quickly found myself ordering some full size flavours of mix from an online retailer, who I was already a coffee customer.    They have a great variety and I've really enjoyed trying out some different sodas, and look forward to more soon.    Each bottle of mix makes 12 litres of finished soda.

The kit arrives with the machine, a carbonation cylinder,  a one 1 litre bottle, a variety of flavours and a user manual.    In addition to different flavor mixes, I also purchased a three pack of bottles, so we can always have a bottle of our favourite soda chilling in the refrigerator.

To make a bottle of soda, just choose your desired mix, then, begin by adding water to the fill line & screw it into the drinkmaker.  Carbonate your water by pressing the lever on the top of the machine, (I find three or four presses, makes my drinks to the perfect fizz.)  Simply remove your carbonated water and add your flavor mix.

Some of the mixes I've purchased - cream soda, gingerale, diet cola & lemonade

So, why have I fallen for my SodaStream?

I admit, we drink a lot of carbonated beverages in our home, in fact a little bit of an addiction.  I love that I can now make my own at home.  The SodaStream is saving me money, time and energy.  From start to finish, it only takes less than one minute to mix up a bottle of refreshing soda.  The taste is fantastic and quite comparable to the leading brands.    You can cater your drink to your personal tastes, if you want it extra fizzy, then give it an additional press of the carbonate button.

I love that I am saving bottles and cans that are discarded, or going to the recycler, as well as less energy used to transport bottled soda to the stores.   Since, I admit to being a huge connoisseur, this is a very big deal to me and the future for my children.  Buying a case of pop or bottles is heavy to get home, and causes issues for me, since I live with a back injury - now with the SodaStream those issues are completely eliminated.

I will be boxing up my SodaStream drink maker to take with us, for our time away at the cottage this summer.  It is incredibly convenient and so easy to use.

I've fallen in love with my SodaStream.  I wanted one for a really long time and my husband asked me if I was still as excited about it, now that I have one.  And, the answer is YES!  Making my own soda at home has made me very happy.

Thank you for taking the time to review this! I have been thinking of buying one if only to save on bottles. I hate taking cans and bottles in for recycling.

I am astonished it is that slim. I thought it would take up more space and my counter space is at a premium. Yours too I imagine.

My husband drinks a TON of soda, I'd like to try this out. How does the cost compare to buying bottles in the store?

I've heard a lot of good things about these. We dont drink a lot of that kind of thing but it would be nice to have for a treat once in a while.

I actually use the Mio/Crystal Light liquids to make a sugar/calorie free soda.. Very tasty :-)

@Kristin: The bottle of mix cost roughly $7 at the place I purchased and each bottle makes 12L of soda.
