Today's Youth Are Tomorrow's Future {Guest Post}

Canada prides itself on being one of the wealthiest countries in the world, but that wealth isn’t shared equally with everyone. Hundreds of thousands of Canadians have no jobs or a place to live during the cold winter months, including hundreds of Canadian youth. Young men and women are the future of the country, but require homes, opportunities and chances at real lives.

The Canadian winters are recognized as much as the country’s reputation for being a wealthy nation. Cities routinely issue cold weather alerts and blizzard conditions throughout the winter months, and encourage residents to stay in their homes. However, thousands of Canadian youth are without homes or any type of shelter to escape the cold, and rely on their wits to survive.

In Toronto, the city estimates that over 10,000 young men and women are homeless at some point in any given year. When cold weather alerts are issued, homeless youth rely on social housing and charitable organizations to open the doors, and help them stay warm on particularly cold nights. But these organizations can only do so much with the funds that they have, and are reliant on the generosity of individuals and businesses to support their missions.

One of these organizations is the Covenant House, in which 80 percent of its operating budget is funded from outside donations. The Covenant House is recognized as one of Toronto’s most important organizations for helping homeless youth stay off the streets. Dozens of volunteers devote their time to the organization’s mission, and are amazed at the number of bright, talented young Canadians that come through the doors who simply need shelter and someone to believe in them.

The Covenant House is more than just a shelter – it offers healthcare, counselling, and education services. The organization’s most proud distinction is that it offers job training skills to help young men and women find steady employment and begin building a whole new life. The Covenant House relies on donations to fund these services from businesses like www.onlinecasino.org. The website will donate $50 to the Covenant House for every person that registers an account through the website by March 20 – the first day of spring.

Help the youth of today believe they can be better for tomorrow.

What a great campaign and I just breaks my heart of the number of homeless people here in Toronto. I have been seeing it with my own eyes in the last 8 months I have lived here. Just staggering!

It's something that not a lot of us think about, but amazing that there are good charities out there willing to go the extra mile. Makes me want to help and give back.
