Several communities get in the spirit and some have award-winning displays, that dazzle locals and tourists alike. Our little country town is one of those award winning communities. Each November through to the new year we enjoy a large display of holiday lights in the park by the river. Folks can drive through and enjoy the lights, which are always a crowd pleaser.
Many residents also take part and light up the darkness of winter with festive strings of lights
We enjoy piling the kids in the van and taking a little tour around the town to see what other families have done. Some homes are simple, while others are much more elaborate. I like to the homes, which have strung lights a long their eves-troughs, and on their double garage doors - it makes their home look like a gingerbread house.
Some of my favourite lights are those twinkling on snow covered evergreens. I am a big fan of the new soft LED lights which are popping up everywhere this season. I will have to keep an eye open for some on sale on boxing day, and put them away until next year.
I know some people think it is too expensive to run lights. Yet, I still love them, and feel they brighten our neighbourhoods during the holidays. Do you string Christmas lights on your home and property? If so, are you a minimalist, or do you go all out with the holiday decorations?
