Giving Back within the Community

The best thing about the holidays is helping others and giving back within our community.  I try to help our foodbank throughout the year, and even more so during the holidays.  The statistics are staggering and more and more families are finding themselves short each month and having to look for some help.  I think it is really important to teach our children the importance of remembering others.  Our life has been full of challenges, and we have been lucky to have family help us out when we've needed it.  Not all are that lucky.

My children participate in the breakfast program which is sponsored by our local chevrolet dealers.

Every Thursday morning they go to the community center before school and are given a hot breakfast, plus a snack or two to have later in the day.  It is a time of inclusion and everyone is welcome - no questions asked.   There are children there from all grades and the food is set up buffet style.  They have hot and cold food, and a variety of milk and juice.  It is a great way to start the day on the right foot, for the school children.

There are 400 children which attend our school, and all are invited to join in and enjoy breakfast on Thursday mornings.   Potentially feeding that number of children once a week is a costly undertaking, and I appreciate those sponsors and volunteers who help week after week.

I am so thankful for our chevrolet dealership for being such a strong influence in our community.  As a result, I support them.  Recently, they have been giving an additional donation to the breakfast program for each person who drops into the dealership and takes a test drive.    This might just be the perfect excuse and opportunity  to check out one of the new chevrolet equinox sport utility vehicles!

What a great program! Breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day and so many kids don't get it, or at least don't get a proper one that will see them through the morning so they can focus and learn at school.

We are also instilling a sense of community and giving in our young daughter. I'm not sure if they have this program here. I'll have to look into it!
