A Boy's Best Day Ever!
Visiting the annual International Plowing Match is not just a day of fun for an nine year old boy, but also a time of learning.
Yesterday, I took Matthew out of school, so he could spend the day with his grandfather at the Plowing Match. For anyone who isn't familiar with the Plowing Match, it is the country's largest outdoor show. It is referred to as The Tented City and covers hundred of hectares, where the young and old alike can visit and learn and take part in country and farm exhibitions.
My son Matthew is a young farmer at heart and just spent two weeks over the summer with his grandfather helping and learning at the family farm. Spending the day at the Plowing Match was an amazing opportunity for him to check out all the latest and greatest in the farming industry, yet, most importantly spend the day with his grandpa.
Throughout the day they enjoyed watching the plowing challenges, and competitions. They had a chance to watch the Dancing Tractors, which is square dancing tractor style. Matthew rode a horse and to top the day off Grandpa and him went up in a glass-bottom helicopter for a 15 minute flight. Not to mention enjoying delicious fair-type foods, all day long.
When I met up with Grandpa in the evening they were both laughing and excited, though their coats and boots were covered in mud. They have already made plans to attend next year's Plowing Match, and maybe Matthew may even camp out with Grandpa so they can enjoy more than just one day together.
In the words of Matthew, his day out with Grandpa was his best day ever!
