Gather 'round the Grill! #LMDconnector

Don't you love the smell of fired up barbeques throughout the neighbourhood, on a spring evening?

Oh yeah!  The epitome of spring-time fare.

Maybe you or someone in your family are grilling enthusiasts and don't let the winter weather deter you from lighting the barbeque.  My hubby is one of those die-hard king of the grill types and takes his outdoor cooking very seriously.

Yet, spring time weather does seem to make it much more enjoyable.

With the official kick off to the summer right around the corner it is always great to find a few new barbeque menu ideas to serve to friends and family, while enjoying the warm outdoor air on the backyard patio.  My hubby goes all out and makes his own rubs and loves to slow cook over indirect heat.  But, when I take the helm I am not quite as inspired.  He cooks over charcoal, yet, I prefer the gas barbeque - it's just easier for me.

Outdoor cooking is always a hit, no matter the method.

What is better than a neighbourhood pot-luck party?

Of course the grill is the main attraction.  Yet, don't forget tasty side dishes to accompany your barbeque recipes.  This is the time of year to pair up your main course with simple salads.  One of my family's favourite is Tuna Macaroni Salad.

Tuna Macaroni Salad
{recipe from Betty Crocker cookbook}

  • 1 package elbow macaroni
  • 1/2 frozen sweet peas, thawed
  • 1 can tuna, drained
  • 1 cup mayo or salad dressing
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup sweet pickle relish
  • 2 tsp fresh lemon juice
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 medium celery stalk, chopped
  • 1 small onion chopped

Cook macaroni as directed on the package.  Adding peas for last four or six minutes of cooking, rinse with cold water and drain

In a large bowl mix macaroni, and peas with remaining ingredients.  Cover and refrigerate for at least one hour to blend flavours

Canadians, get outside this long weekend and gather 'round the grill.
