Kraft Dinner Smart

Kraft Canada is a well known and trusted name in our home, and I would be willing to bet - at a lot of homes across our country.

We always have several boxes of Kraft Dinner in our pantry.  My kids ask for it, and it's always a well received side dish to accompany any meal.    The kids smother it with ketchup and I never have any left-overs when KD is on the menu.   When we were asked to try out new Kraft Dinner Smart,  I thought that it would be a great opportunity to try out the new variety, yet, I was a little worried about my sometimes-picky-eaters.

Our samples arrived in super cool fashion and included, we even found some brightly coloured new bowls for serving our Kraft Dinner.  The kids loved the grocery cart, but, were they going to love Kraft Dinner Smart?

I figured my best approach was just not to say anything about the switch in Kraft Dinner.  Often my kids are more receptive to something new if it is done quietly, without fanfare.  I also found helpful tips at Kraft Canada how to introduce new foods to picky eats, tips which I am sure I will find myself referring to again and again.  Ultimately, though Kraft Canada came up with Kraft Dinner Smart to help with dinner time battles.  Kids big and small love KD, so why not give them a healthier option?

Kraft Dinner Smart macaroni and cheese contain no artificial flavours, colours, or preservatives.  All things which moms love, but, things kids don't really care too much about.

There are three varieties of new Kraft Dinner Smart.

  • KD Smart High Fiber - a source of fiber
  • KD Smart Vegetables - offers 1/2 a serving of vegetables
  • KD Smart Flax Omega-3 - a source of Omega-3 Polyunsaturates

The kids asked for Kraft Dinner for lunch over the holiday break and I thought this will be the perfect time for a test.

My son and youngest daughter ate KD Smart High Fiber and Flax Omega-3 without noticing too much difference.  My youngest daughter, (who I think is a vegetarian, but just doesn't know it yet) was really keen for the vegetable variety, once I told her what it was.  Tasting it myself, I thought it had the same [the secret word is - cheesy] taste which KD is famous for, and the texture seemed the same as regular Kraft Dinner.  I will admit that I am not a big Kraft Dinner connoisseur to begin with, but I really didn't mind a bowl of KD Smart.

The final word on Kraft Dinner Smart....a comfort food which is loved, just got better!

Find KD Smart on your grocers shelves now.  But, first be sure to get a money saving coupon here.

This is good to know. I have 2 KD lovers in my house and I often add broccoli to it (Mac & Cheese & Trees) to up the nutritional value. I'd be very interested in trying this out to see how it goes over!

KD is one of those foods that everyone seems to enjoy. Having a "smart" version of this is awesome!

That is too cool! Love the way it was delivered to you too!

My SIL had the KD "smart" version with the veggies and while I was visiting, I gave it to her kids (and Little One) for lunch. They loved it.

Getting in extra veggie servings is always tricky for me. I think I will keep an eye out for these next time I am shopping for KD!

My issue is never my toddler - its my hubby!! I know Smook would love this - its the Hubster who'd have a problem with the healthy part of KD Smart :$ LOL

My kids can't stand the KD Smart stuff. I have tried a few times and they both turn up their noses.

It's funny my kids wouldn't eat the whole wheat KD but they enjoyed the KD Smart when we got our samples too! I think it's great that Kraft is putting more nutrition into foods kids already enjoy!

Love the fact that they are coming out with healthier choices. I don't eat cheese so I am not a KD fan but my kids are.

Looks like it was a hit despite the change. I am an "uncool" mama because I make my own organic Macaroni & Cheese at home. But, when my sister takes my daughter shopping she comes home with a box of KD and my sister gets a death stare but, at least NOW she brings the Smart KD and I feel a bit better.

I'm a KD lover... even after the University years, I still always have KD in my cupboard.. though it's more of a weekend treat now, haha. I've never tried the KD Smart stuff, maybe I will and see what I think! I'm fairly particular with KD, I *only* like the Original KD (not the white cheese, not any kind with the different noodles, etc). It's totally in my head, but ever since I was a kid I felt that way! LOL.

I know the family I was nannying for in the summer, the kids did not like the KD Smart their mom tried to sneak in... one day they asked for KD and specifically said, "NOT that Healthy Box of it! The REGULAR". It was pretty funny....

I love KD and the thought of a change and not that great taste I am skeptical but with your review I am willing to try it, thanks!
