I'm in {Red Velvet} Cupcake Heaven #LMDConnector

Betty Crocker introduces
Red Velvet Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Flavoured Frosting

A couple of years ago, when we were visiting the orthodontist, for a monthly check, my very observant daughter looked across the parking lot and spied a gourmet cupcake shop and begged if we could go over and take a peek.  Having a weakness for cupcakes myself, (and a weakness for my daughter, as well) we went over to take a little look-see.   They had some delicious-looking treats, but, boy they were expensive.  For ten dollars, I bought  two cupcakes - one for my daughter and one for myself.  That was the first and only time (before this past weekend) that I tasted Red Velvet Cupcakes.

A very happy perk of being a Life Made Delicious connector is having the opportunity to try out new products.  Betty Crocker is rolling out for a limited time only, and just in time for Valentine's Day, a Red Velvet Cupcake mix.

Did you know?

  • New, Betty Crocker Red Velvet Cupcakes are the first nationally branded product of it's kind and they are only available in Canada.
  • Each package includes everything needed to create this bake shop favourite - dry mix and frosting.
  • Internet searches for red velvet spike during the month of  February.

On the weekend, the weather was rather snowy, it was the perfect day for mixing up my Red Velvet Cupcakes.

The mix makes a dozen cupcakes, or you could also make it in a cake pan if you wished.  Finding that the icing was included was a nice bonus - but, I'll admit to being a little skeptical about it.  I am not a big fan of pre-made icing.  In the spirit of product reviews I was willing to give it a try though.

The cupcakes baked up light, fluffy and moist, and they tasted oh-so-yum!

I was even pleasantly surprised that I liked the icing as well.  Just knead the icing pack and squeeze out onto the cupcakes.

I thought the cupcakes looked great, and tasted equally as good!

Look for Red Velvet Cupcakes in these stores (and more) this February...

    • Giant Tiger
    • Sobeys (Ontario)
    • Sobeys (West)
    • WalMart
    • London Drugs

Betty Crocker Red Velvet Cupcakes are the perfect Valentine's Day treat.

I've never tried red velvet either, most recipes just look like red food colouring is added. I might have to snag a couple boxes of this to try them out!

Oh wow that looks so good! I'm a big red velvet fan over here, so is the hubby. This might be something I'll have to add to my grocery list and make really soon!

Cream cheese just makes my mouth drool. What's not to like about cupcakes with cream cheese flavored frosting? Think I'll need to mix up a batch for sure.
