Girls Are Awesome! {Barbie I Can Be}

Distinctly, I can remember gazing into the eyes of my newborn daughter and saying welcome to the world little one - don't ever let anyone tell you that you aren't enough.  This world is full of amazing opportunities and you can be and do whatever you choose!  And, I know I'm not alone - as mothers of daughters don't we all want that for our girls?

Over the next year, join me in finding inspiration to help raise those daughters through I Can Be.

Today is I Can Be Day
{October 27th}

Today, in schools across our country you will find moms visiting and speaking to young girls about their careers.  Girls will have the opportunity to be encouraged and hear how the sky is the limit!

While the kick off is today, I Can Be is ongoing for the next year.  Moms like you and I can join in the conversation by visiting I Can Be The Voice on facebook.  There, we will find parenting coach Terry Carson.  I had an unique opportunity to listen to Terry just the other night at the I Can Be kick-off party.  It was an amazing moment to hear Terry Carson in person and I know that  I am going to learn a lot from her over the course of the campaign.  (Immediately, I realized a parenting mistake I make, without knowing I was making an error.)   I'm looking forward to hearing from Terry, I am also excited to be a part of the I Can Be community and have the chance to interact with other moms of girls.  There is nothing like the support and knowledge of others, while living in the moment.

October's theme is I Can Be.  This month, Terry Carson challenges us to look into the future.  What do we want for our daughters in twenty years, and how are we going to inspire them to get to that proverbial finish line?

 I am trying to instill in my daughters that the choices they are making today will affect their futures.  I want them to grow up with compassion and kindness,  I also want them to work hard, and set goals for themselves.  I truly believe that each and every day is an opportunity for them to grow and learn.  I want them to feel pride in themselves and each night when they lay their head down, they can sleep peacefully knowing they were the best they could be that day.  I want to inspire them by example, yet, I also know that at times kids sometimes think that their mothers are out of touch with todays world.  This is where having a mentor for your daughter is a good idea.  My girls mentor is their older cousin.  Alyssa is in her first year of university and she completely knocks my socks off.  If you were looking for a poster child for the I Can Be campaign I think Alyssa would fit perfectly.

Join me at the I Can Be community, in raising and empowering a generation of girls who will walk tall through life knowing that they ARE the best they can be!

Our little princesses of today are going to be tomorrows doctors, lawyers, astronauts.........and mothers of their own daughters!

I am participating in the Barbie I Can Be campaign by Mom Central Canada on behalf of Mattel Canada.  I received compensation as a thank you for my participation.  The opinions on this blog are my own.
