Family Traditions

Thanksgiving is upon us...I can hardly believe the passage of time!

I know, that many families celebrate Thanksgiving with deep roots in tradition.  I wish I could share great Thanksgiving memories of big feasts - I have memories, but they aren't centered around the table.  You see, when we were children we spent our Thanksgiving weekends at our family cottage.  We worked all weekend (often in cold rain) to close the cottage for the winter.  We spent the weekend putting away lawnchairs, piling wood and by the end of the weekend we were sitting in a sun-less cottage because the windows were then covered with shutters.  If you have ever closed a cottage, then you know it is a lot of hard work which takes teamwork.

I think Thanksgiving held a different memory for me, and thus it always seems to be an after thought to put together a family meal.  I do know that, from years of working in a grocery store, that I was obviously the minority and people go all out for Thanksgiving.

For many - it is all about the FOOD.

Because, I seek inspiration for putting together a Thanksgiving meal, I turn to Life Made Delicious for easy recipes.

I was able to find everything I need to pull together a meal fit for even the most discerning.  Everything from roast turkey to tasty garlic mashed potatoes.    And, of course easy recipes for pumpkin pie or how does pumpkin angel food cake with ginger-cream filling sound to you?

The days of winterizing a cottage are behind me for now, so my mission is to go forth and start some new Thanksgiving traditions.  I think I much rather Thanksgiving focus around the table with family and friends.  Hopefully for my children, Thanksgiving is going to be full of big family meals and maybe a visit to a local pumpkin patch.

Happy Thanksgiving!

thanksgiving holds so many memories for me and most of them are around the table. The food I dont' remember so much but the talks and laughs were so much more important.

Yes it's about the food but family reunions mostly. I've got to try that angel cake sounds so good. My kids are looking forward to play with their cousins and that's the spirit.
Happy Thanksgiving
