Iams Home 4 the Holidays

Meet Claire and this is the story of how Claire came to be part of our family....

Claire is our family pet and we have had her for about thirteen years. A few months after our cat Peaches died, we decided to adopt a new cat from our local shelter. The day we went to the shelter I chose a little black kitten, it was the cutest thing. My husband chose this full grown cat, she was so skinny and her fur was wirey. Really, nothing appealed to me about that cat. But, since my husband is the cat person in our family, I gave in and said yes.

Claire had been found in the parking lot of a local grocery store, she was just about dead from starvation. Some kind person captured her and took her to the shelter. Claire had been in the shelter for several weeks and was not having much luck finding a home, until the day we walked in.

Fast forward thirteen years. Claire is no longer an energetic young cat, she spends most of her time sleeping in fact. Though, she is a constant companion and spends her time with us. I am thankful to that person, who picked her up that day and didn't just walk by. And, I am thankful for the Humane Society for caring for unwanted animals.....

This Christmas Iams Home 4 the Holidays is finding homes for animals across the world in fifteen countries!

  • Iams Home 4 the Holidays (IH4TH) is one of the world’s most successful pet adoption drive

  • The program started in the U.S. when Iams and the Helen Woodward Animal Center joined forces with just 14 animal shelters in San Diego County. It has grown to more than 3,500 participating shelters and animal rescue organizations across the globe and has helped 3.2 million families experience the joy of pet adoption

  • The 2009 campaign kicked off its 11th year in North America on October 1, 2009 and will run until January 4, 2010
  • Last year, more than 1.2 million pets were placed in loving homes in North America, exceeding the goal of finding 1 million adoptions. In 2009, the campaign’s goal is to find happy, forever homes for 1.5 million pets

  • Iams is committed to this program and the mission of enhancing the well-being of dogs and cats by not only helping find homes for orphaned pets, but by bringing together people and pets for a lifetime of health, happiness and love
Every family/household who adopts a pet through IH4TH receives an Iams adoption kit filled with helpful tips and information to help make a new dog or cat’s first few days in their new home even better, and to ensure a long and happy relationship with their new family member.

Find a participating shelter near you, where you can donate, volunteer you time or adopt a pet into your family!

aww thats a nice story. I always donate to the humane society (IAMS on the other hand cant have my support because their food ruined the health of my cat) but I do think its nice they have a good program to help homeless animals find homes. I hope though that once they are in those homes people will actually realize that cats should not eat corn or rice and find a more natural product to feed them.

Loved the story. Although we are not in a position to adopt a pet at this point in our lives, if and when we do, it will be from the Humane Society.

Thanks for the post.

What a sweet story! And how wonderful that your husband chose the cat that probably wouldn't have been picked to bring home and love.

It is so sad when you hear about how people abandon animals ... like if they move or get tired of them. I wish all animals could find a loving, caring home.
