The best night of the year....

Halloween is a big deal around my house. We love everything about it, the decorations, the costumes and the ...CANDY of course.

Really, Halloween is a week long event, leading up to the big night.

Tom is leading Beavers this year so he had a party for his colony. Their party was dressing up and playing games and of course TREATS.

Matthew was IronMan. (Unfortunately in our neighbourhood of elderly and retired people, most did not know who IronMan was...and they asked! I think he was a little sad about that. Thankfully he had a big bag of candy and chips to cheer him up)

His IronMan mask didn't make it back from the Beaver party. Even though, I think masks can be on the dangerous side, this one kind of added to his costume.

On the same night as the Beavers party I took Jillian to her Halloween party at her daycare. (no pictures of that because I sent my camera to Beavers) She was a little nervous going, for a couple of reasons. She is not used to be out in the dark and that scares her. And, the teachers were all dressed up making her a little apprehensive. She just studied them, she knew she knew them but just wasn't sure.

(great shirt - which has her name monogrammed across the pumpkin, skirt and even her Halloween hair clip was all purchased on Etsy)

Jillian was the lucky winner at the daycare party. She won a backpack and a soccer ball from the raffle!

Trick or Treat!

We headed out around 6:30 and quickly noticed that not too many kids were out and about. Most people we visited said the same thing. The night was windy and pretty chilly. (we have been lucky for the last few years with really warm nights)

Emily went trick or treating with her friend at the other end of town. This was the first time she went with a friend and not us.

Kind of sad, but a rite of passage... I suppose!

She may of been a bit sad too, because she called at 12:30 AM, just to say goodnight.

Jillian as a unicorn, but she thought she was a pony. She is IN LOVE WITH my little pony since we got the DVD for review.

Matthew had to wear his winter coat, because it was so cold and he substituted a GI Joe mask .

And, my hubby really gets into the Halloween spirit. He loves it the most out of entire family.

People loved his costume and laughed their butts off. Some could figure it out, others could not!

We went to visit our next door neighbour who went to a nursing home earlier this year. It only took 10 minutes out of our night, but their were tears in her eyes...so it was totally worth it!

There was also four residents at the door giving out treats, I don't imagine they get too many trick or treaters.

We even had one lady tell us that she prepared her candy bag after washing her hands.

But the highlight of Halloween 2009 was the visit to Nana and Papa's. Papa was dressed up and played a scary trick on the kids. You know ringing the door bell and no one there. It was so awesome, because my Dad has had many health issues this year and it has really zapped the life out of him. The kids haven't stopped talking about Papa, and it is a memory they will have for the rest of their lives.

Meeting up with neighbours and friends on the street in the dark is just so much fun. Everyone is in a good mood and laughing and it just slows down life...if even for one night.

So, until next year when we once again celebrate the best night of the year!

You all really had some great-looking costumes!

It is indeed a bittersweet thing when a child gets old enough to do their own thing on Halloween.

Stopping by from the SITS Halloween Parade! :o)
