Drama at 8:30 PM

Do you ever have that moment when you feel like the worst parent on earth?

I had just that last night, which resulted in a trip to the ER at 8:30 PM. Jillian had a small sore on her leg a long her underwear line about 5 days ago and I had been treating it by applying cortisone cream and keeping it covered. Last night after her bath I removed the band-aid to put the cream on and change the dressing. When the band-aid came off I was shocked at how much the "rash" had grown.

Immediately I think the worst and panic. And, of course Tom is on the afternoon shift. When I looked at the "rash" I was sure it was flesh-eating disease. I knew I couldn't sleep without having it looked at. I, of course, feel guilty for using the ER for what should be a office visit, but I rationalize it to myself that when it comes to the children, it doesn't really matter to me if they give me the lecture at the hospital.

The diagnoses? Impetigo.

I will treat it for 72 hours and if it isn't clearing up I should take her back to the doctor. She is pretty contagious, so I would imagine the other two kids will end up with it as well.

So much for spending a Thanksgiving with family, I guess we will be in quarantine! But thankfully it is nothing worse than a bacterial infection.

Aww that is pretty scary. I had no idea impetigo could be there..i always think on the face. We've dealt with that when my teens were toddlers.

You totally did the right thing taking her in. I would have too! My hubby had MRSA and it was terrifying. I cannot imagine a little one having it! I'm so glad she'll be ok!

So glad her flesh is still intact! I would've done the same thing! Glad to hear that she's okay:)

I love that photo of her!

(I have missed you!!!)

Why is it that the drama always seems to happen when the hubby is away? That's always my luck, too! I hope Jillian is feeling better.

Yikes! Totally don't feel bad ... most things are minor and I think I would have done the same thing. If we panicked at every little bit or mark, we'd go nuts. Hope it clears up fast! And don't beat yourself up over it!

I would have done the same thing! And thankfully its nothing super serious. We have had SERIOUS skin problems...guess what, they dont look all that serious! so you never can tell!!! So in the end its better to be safe than sorry!
Good work on being on top of things!
And Jillian looks cute with her Dora cake!

im glad it wasnt serious and that it will go away. Sometimes its worth the trim for a better night sleep. When we are worried it makes the days go longer and just harder! Shes so cute!!!
