Swimming Hole

Welcome to our local swimming hole.

It is actually a quarry, which was at one time mined for limestone. You can see the limestone walls.

It is deep and it has fish in it.

It can be very cold.

It is not my cup of tea, but my daughter loves it.

She just finished her swimming lesson, and it was done at the quarry this year.

Last year was the first year that she started swimming at the quarry, and I was very nervous.

I had a friend life-guard there as a summer job (years ago) and I remember her saying that if they had to look for someone the odds would be pretty slim that they could rescue them in time.

The water can be very murky.

My daughter is one of those heads bobbing around out there.

Something about not being able to touch down or get quickly to a wall makes me nervous.

And then there is the cliff!

Which they love jumping off of.

That looks like so much fun! I'm not big on the cold water though.

Happy WW!

OK, I'm trying not to be the scaredy mom, but the way you've described it does make me thing, "Ummm...." Of course, I wouldn't say so to the kids, though! Looks like they're having a great time!

I don't blame you for being nervous! I don't like to swim in anything I can't see the bottom of!

Looks like a great place for the kids!

I am scared to death even at the thought of my little ones being "out there" swimming! Mine are 3 years and 18 months and I've already begun worrying about that! Crazy huh?! And when I think back to when I was young and what I did --- it just freaks me out even more......how do mothers get THROUGH IT??!! Ha! Ha!

She is brave! I am such a scaredy cat!

My bungee-jumping kids would take to that cliff immediately. Yikes!

Looks fun, but that cliff would freak me out too. I'd have to cover my eyes anytime someone jumped!

you are braver than me, that would make me nervous to let my kids have lessons there. Even if they were strong swimmers I'd be nervous!!! But, you gotta use what you have and I am guessing the reason lessons are there is because there is no local pool?

Yep, that looks exactly like a place kids would love!

We have some of those around here. None have lifeguards. Although I'm not sure how effective they would be - like your friend said.

It does look like fun. The only thing better would be if it was warm water. It's funny how kids don't notice the cold as much!

Looks like a great way to cool off. I would think they would give lessons at a pool for the sake of safety. It is very pretty though!

No way! I like to see the bottom of the water I swim in!

Oh my word! That is a scary place to swim - and I can just imagine the water being like ice. I guess if there is proper supervision its alright! I hope kids don't go there and swim on their own. If something happens, no wonder you can't find them!

That looks like a lot of fun. It's been a while since I've gone swimming.

I totally get what you're saying... I'm a pool girl more than a lake (or quarry) girl! I like to see what's under me and have walls to grab when I get tired!

That looks really neat, but definitely not for me! Can you go fishing there? I might be able to handle that! LOL!
