Jumpstart *GIVEAWAY* and Review

How times have changed since I was a kid!

We didn't have a computer, nor did we have video games. I can remember my friends brother getting an Atari and that was my first introduction to any kind of computerized game.

My children on the other hand have grown up with computers, and games. They don't know any other way. It is a wonderful thing to see my children not be scared of the computer. Any of them could pick it up and know how to navigate it.

Enter Jump Start.

When the kids finished up school at the end of June, I began to introduce them to the learning games at the Jump Start site.

Jump Start is an award-winning adventure-based 3D virtual world that is super-personalized, wildly imaginative and really fun, but don't let that fool you!! It also teaches math, reading, and critical thinking skills so kids get a real jump start in life.

Quite honestly, I am a little old-fashioned when it comes to learning through computer games. I still believe in books and the good old library. But, it is wonderful for a child to have a world of learning at their fingertips. And, if it is fun as well...all the better!!

We began our Jump Start Experience by creating our customized Jumpee. Matthew and Jillian were able to taylor their Jumpee to their preferences. This is the perfect start to the game...the kids were already involved, and their Jumpee was their own, giving them something to have pride in.

Our favourite game to play was ADVENTURELAND. We first meet Frankie, who leads us throughout the game. Frankie was with us every step of the game, he is speaking to the child and will help as needed. Frankie gives the child praise when a correct action is given.

Initially, a parent or older sibling should play along side the child. But, once the child has the hang of the game, I have no problem letting them play on their own. Controls are easy and 'chunky' designed for young players.

The games are an appropriate length for young players, they are able to complete a level, and move on. I think this really helps in keeping their attention focused on learning. There is a great variety of games, Jump Start keeps the fun coming for hours on end.

As a parent, be sure to visit the Jump Start Blog. At the blog you will find a lot of useful information that goes above and beyond the game itself.

This Mom (who may have one foot still in the dark ages) was thrilled with her Jump Start experience. And that is saying a lot. I have never bought a computer game or membership to a game like Jump Start.

Matthew and Jillian (more importantly) give Jump Start two thumbs up!

I learned that JumpStart Pet Rescue for Wii will be coming soon. My daughter would go crazy. She loves Jump Start. We actually used to pay for this program for her but ultimately decided it was an expense we had to do without. I'd love three months free! Thanks!
