Wind Farms

Are any of these turbines cropping up in your back yard?

They are in Ontario. We have almost 700 now, with another 300 projected to be put up in the next year or two. They are harvesting the natural resource of wind to convert it to energy.

Wonderful idea? Great alternative to fabricate energy?

Many thought so, and many still do. However, people are coming forward with health complaints, people who are living in close proximity to the wind turbines.

People are complaining of the noise created by the turbines, and it worsens if a storm is approaching and the wind picks up...so do the turbines.

Other complaints include: vibrations through the body, intense headache, queasiness, dizziness and heart rhythm irregularities.

What does the government say?

No research to prove that these are causing any ill-effects.

Before they began putting up the turbines studies were done on the effects of birds, but none on the effects of humans.

Maybe someone should look into that!

This is what is making the news in my neck of the woods.

Hmmm...interesting point.

We don't have those here but when I visited my friend in San Francisco they were everywhere. It was mesmerizing.

Wow...I never even was aware that there were side effects. We dont'have them here in my city. But when we went to London..i saw tonnes.

I have seen them around as your "neck of the woods" is somewhat mine ;-) I hadn't heard though of the effects from them. Funny how sometimes animals have more rights and respect than humans.

Have a great day!

I've seen them around, but not too much in our area yet!

It seems like I have seen more of them too, but not quite that many. Have a great week.

Wow! Who would have thought? I think its too bad that the government isn't taking it more serious..in regards to the physical side-effects they are having on the people.

yeesh... that kinda scary... sounds like a great idea, till many years from now where you'll wonder about long term effects.

Sounds like some tweaking is in order. That's wild that they were tested on birds and not on humans.

I haven't seen any of these I don't think. Those effects sound bizarre. That really happens?

I would have never thought that wind turbines could cause health problems. That is really interesting! I hope they look into some more for the sake of those that do live near them.

There are hundreds of these near Palm Springs, CA. I always wonder if they really are as efficient as they say.

We have some in VA, in the Winchester area I know for sure. Since I don't have any close by I'm not that familiar with the ill effects they may cause.

However a neighboring town is fighting to keep a concrete factory from buying land there. Oh and a man shot another man trying to break in his house this weekend in my county. That's the news around these parts...

We don't have any in my area...interesting though that they may cause all those problems!

Thanks! I didn't know these caused ill-effects, wow! I always thought it would be neat to have one nearby, I guess maybe not!

Thats interesting. Never thought about that before (side effects). My husband grew up in Lubbock TX and they have a ton of those. I'll have to ask him about that.

There is a big uproar here too about this!

Yes, I know people who are experiencing real, terrible problems. In Canada there are families who have simply abandoned their homes and are unable to sell them. The Ontario government refuses to acknowledge the problem because the wind lobbyists are very powerful and this is a threat to their industry. To learn more: http://windconcernsontario.org

I think most of the turbines in the south and west of the US are kept far away from homes. That's probably why there have been no problems there. There have been real problems in Maine and New York though.

I know there have been studies on the harm of road noise. I can not remember the exact results, but the study stated that the continuous noise from a road is harmful to your health - I can not remember the exact problem. However, my point is there are studies out there on how noise harms people. Maybe, the electricity generated by the turbines is making the folks sit like high power lines.

VERY interesting.. I had not heard of the physical/illness complaints.. just the complaints from those in beautiful places like Nantucket (not wanting to stare at the turbines instead of the ocean. ) Thanks for sharing!

Interesting. I wish I lived somewhere cool like Canada

You'd think everyone would be glad to have an energy source nearby.....:)

Thanks for stopping by today. I have seen those in other states but not where I live. Have a great night.

WOW this is a very interesting subject. I would think there would have to be some investigation to discredit or confirm the associations of the turbines causing health problems. Has their been any petitions signed to remove them from populated areas?

We don't have any of those here in CT...yet...but isn't it just like the government to deny any possible side effects...

It's so amazing how government will decide whether something is a hazard based on a board room meeting, not based on someone living there.

Interesting. Luckily for us, we don't see them in our country.

Hmmm...never thought of that before - now I'm totally curious if they actually DO cause side effects!!
