Our Local( Not-So)-Friendly Swan

Our town swan just returned to spend his summer here. He winters out of town with some foreign swans. Foreign being the next town over. He is all alone now, last spring something hunted his mate and won.

This swan is quite curious about what is going on, but you need to be on guard as he can turn on you pretty quickly.

I really think they are beautiful birds. They are so white, and they are so alert and smart. But, they do scare me. They are quite large and they can be pretty mean.

This day, as we played at the playground he glided around the river above the falls. The water was very quiet and he was checking things out. Anyone taking interest in him and watching him from the rivers edge would get a chance to meet him up close and personal, as he was interested in them as well.

Please take a moment and vote for our picture in a photo contest. We are entry #5! If you already have, I thank you! You guys have been great!! Call on me anytime for a favour:)

Don't forget the missing girl from my area. Victoria is now missing for one week. There are no leads.

I didn't know they were kinda temperamental. You're doing well so far in the contest!

I probably would be cranky too, if someone/something got my mate and took it away from me....being that swans are 'mates' for life.

My Wordful is posted about the day I had yesterday...come by if you can find some time in your busy routine!! Happy Wednesday.

Yup, I'd be bitter too!

What a beautiful swan. Pity about his mate! We have a black swan in the gardens of our office block - he is also a beautful speciman, but a little grumpy too!

I voted for you!! Actually I voted twice because the first time I accidentally voted for the wrong picture so I figured I needed to vote for you twice to cancel out the "oops" factor. ;-)

I love swans and your guy is beautiful. Losing my mate would change my attitude too. I am praying for Victoria and my heart is so heavy for her. One week is too long a time for her now. I know God knows where she is and I pray His protection over her and her family. I love you Pam.

Love and Hugs, Laurie

I remember the crazy swans one Fall along the river at the Stratford theaters. We'd gone to see Hello Dolly! for our Anniversary and we walked along the river's edge on that path before the performance. People were feeding the swans and ducks and they were getting nasty. They scare me too! Beautiful birds... but not great "pets" ;-)

Have a great day! Hugs

You got some really nice shots of the swan-he is beautiful! We don't see swans around here, so it's a real treat if we come across one or just see your great pictures of them! :-)

Beautiful!!!

I also voted for the beauty too! ;-)

Beautiful swan! No swans around here, just geese, and lots of 'em. They're usually pretty tame because a lot of them winter here as well. They only snap at you if you try to get near the babies. Totally understandable! :)

I voted!

And I'm still praying for Victoria and her family. Thanks for keeping us updated.

I think swans are beautiful and elegant. I understand that they also have mood swings like people. :)

I'm sorry to hear about Victoria. I will pray for her.

swans are def scary... once a huge one attacked my brother when he was much younger. it didn't hurt but now 25 yrs later... no swans for him!!

p.s. i'll keep victoria in my thoughts and prayers... could you tell us a little more about her and what happened? maybe you should even post a pix up... just in case... you never know.. the US and canada aren't that terribly far away from one another.

Swans can be sooo mean, I remember when Samantha was 4 one tried to get her, scared her and me. I can laugh now but back then i freaked. Samantha has been very interested in Victoria, since she is the same age, and likes to listen to the news about what has been happening, she didn't like hearing they called off the search. We had a long talk about when and who could take her and what to do if someone asked her or forced her to go with them. I pray for that little girl and hope she makes it home!

I am deathly afraid of geese and swans. They look so pretty but they are so nasty and irritable. Uck!
