Beauty Surrounds Us

I drive by this building everyday, and take it for granted. But not yesterday, I stopped and really looked at the building.

It depicts images that represent what this town is all about. It really is an amazing piece of artwork.

The sad thing is I don't know the name(s) of the people who did this, or how long it took them to complete. Something I will be looking into.

Can you imagine how long this must of taken to complete? How many hours do you suppose are invested in this type of project? You could literally look at this building for hours pointing out different local landmarks.

To make it even sadder the building sits in a beautiful park and playground that is about to be forgotten about. You see, there is an outdoor pool here which is quite old. The pool now leaks and it is past repair, and since we now have our indoor pool at the recreation center, this outdoor pool is not going to be opened this summer. Thus, resulting in less people using the park and stopping to look at and enjoy this building.

Take a look around you today. Do you have anything like this that you pass each day, but you don't really notice anymore? Stop and see the beauty that surrounds us.

How very sad! It is a beautiful building. Thank for reminding me to stop and take a look around - if you read Firefly's blog today, he reminded me to take note of the little things - it's been a good day for learning. Thank you for being a part of it! x x

that building is stunning, sad that it will soon be a "lost" building. Maybe it's time for people to re-purpose the park and find a way to utilize it again too

There is so much beauty that surrounds us that is for sure that we don't notice. I bet that did take a lot of time and effort. Someone has talent. Have a super week.

what a wonderful treasure , perhaps the park can be used for something else. You could always petition to get the pool fixed and cleaned up. the squeaky wheel gets the oil:-)

Thanks for sharing this little piece of beauty and artistry in your home town. I'm sure there is much I miss in our big city that I take for granted each day. Once the sun is shining again I think I should go out and explore my surroundings. You are an inspiration :-D

Isn't it neat how someone can take an ordinary building and turn it into an amazing piece of art!

I don't know that there are building quite like that one around here, but there are buildings that have been repurposed. In my hometown a businessman took the old school that was condemned, fixed it up and made it into eldery apartments. The same thing recently took place in the area I live now. An old cannery that had just been sitting for years was fixed up and made into beautiful apartments. The buildings were not used as canvases for art, but someone still saw something more than broken down buildings when they looked at them and turned them into something useful and amazing!

Thank you for the reminder! :-)

What an interesting building! An old friend of mine from high school is commissioned quite frequently here in the states to do murals on old buildings like this. He just completed one in my hometown in Ohio. Like your building, it depicts the history and town life of the community. They really are precious treasures:)

Thanks for sharing that and for reminding us to take a moment and soak in the beauty around us:)

Amazing simply amazing. Good for you to take the time to enjoy it. I am sure that who ever did this just wanted people to do just that.

We have a buildling like that too in one of our towns close by us. It used to be this really cool French Restaurant that is now vacant and is now in disrepair. I stopped and took pictures too. You are inpiring me to post them!

I do so love people that take the time to make the world a more beautiful, meaningful place. The best part is that they do it without demanding credit or recognition. Thanks for sharing!

That really is a work of art. They didnt sign it anywhere? There must be record of it somewhere. Let us know if you found out who did it!!

That is a beautiful building. It's amazing how we can drive by something everyday and not really look at it. That's a shame it won't be seen as much with the pool closing.
