Aloha Friday

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that they take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

Yesterday my daughter's grade 5 class planted trees in town, in conjunction with the local conservation authority. When she got home from school, she asked if we would like to go see her trees. Even though it was pouring rain, we said yes. Her trees are nothing more than sticks in the ground, but they hold such promise. She will be able to go back and watch those trees grow her entire life. She will be able to take her children and her grandchildren and point to those trees and tell them that she planted them when she was eleven years old.

Her class worked in groups of three to plant the trees. Emily was the only one in her group to actually do any work. The other two girls didn't want to get dirty or touch any worms. She wasn't able to dig the hole herself, but she did everything else, including a rain dance around each one when she was done. (I can hear the rain pouring down as I type!)

I am so proud of her, she is proud of herself. As we drove away from looking, she said to me that one day when I am old she will bring me back to look at those trees. I can only hope that on that day I will remember the pride I felt for her today!

So my question today: (with tears in my eye)

Have you planted anything yet this year? If so what?

If not yet, do you have any plans to plant?

See you tonight at the VNO!!

No we have not planted anything. Our yard is a mess and the soil is full of cadmium so we cannot plant a garden of fruits and veggies like I want to and it never occurs to me to plant flowers. Probably because I do not have much of a green thumb and am afraid it would not go well.

I really want to start a herb garden this year. But, since I'll be gone all summer, I don't know if it will live without me loving on it every day.

I consider myself kind of the flower pied piper! I have planted daffodils everyone that I go.

I have also planted about 17 trees at the homes that I have owned. The first purchase is always a tree!

What a sweet girl you have!

I have plans to go to the nursery today and pick out my plants....

We planted daffodils before Earth Day. Of course the 90+ degree weather here have not helped them in recent days. This week we also planted two lily plants.

I've prepared for the planting. Around here it is suggested to plant after mother's day because of the weather. I'll be buying tomatoes and cilantro to plant.

I've still got to get the xeroscape going. Plus my dog is in the area where I would like to have green stuff & I know he'd dig it out. I have watered a rose bush that was left here though.

Awww what a lovely story.
No we haven't planted anything yet, but Joey and his classmates have. They have been working on a garden at school and us..(his parents) get to see it soon.

Oh that is so sweet! It made me tear up too! That is just so neat that they got to do that. I actually planted 10 trees in the fall, but only 3 of them have survived. So upsetting (paid good money for them! But hubby doesn't want me to get them replaced, you have to pay for half their value plus shipping) I have also planted some of my veggie seeds in my garden, now to wait for the "safe" date so I can plant my starts too.

Hi Pam,

I almost bought something today to plant, but had sooo much to do, I opted to wait until next week. I have so many things to catch up on, the garden is waiting a week or so.

Have a great weekend.

We don't have a yard, but I'd like to get a few plants in pots going. My problem is that I tend to kill them. :(

I got a tree as an early B-day present and I'm growing my first container garden this year. I'll do anything for a decent tomato. Happy VGNO!

As soon as it got a little warm I went out and planted some annuals in the pots on my patio. Flowers always make me smile!

Happy VGNO! I'm with you... Jon's a good pick!

My garden is planted. Squash, zucchini, cucumbers, tomotatoes.

My boys helped.

But above all, my commitment to personally drawing closer to God has taken root in my soul.

I feel Him tilling up my soil more and more each day.

That is a wonderful experience for your daughter. It's good to teach kids how to care for nature.

I remember helping the officers in our village plants trees around the vicinity. It was a memorable experience.

I have some starters in the house, waiting for the 'right' time to plant around here... :) I also have some new plants on order from a nursery I like to buy unique things from (that and they have a guarantee that if the plants don't survive for whatever reason, they'll replace them free of charge...I've had to hold them to that a few times, and they were good on their word! ;)

Princess Nagger brought home a baby white pine to plant for Earth Day - right now it's in a pot in the house until the outside world is ready to plant it - which should be later this month! :)

Happy VGNO - hope you have a GREAT weekend! :)

I love the idea of the kids all planting trees! We haven't planted anything here yet...really can't until after Memorial Day since that is when we can be sure of not having frost on the ground overnight!

We planted an evergreen on New Years Day! It's actually one of my very first posts!

I love this post:) What a wonderful memory and maybe it will become a tradition for her!

I am trying to plant seeds of friendship this year:) I am also trying to plant geraniums that the javelinas won't eat! lol!

(missed you! hopefully I am back on full throttle now!)

I am ashamed to say I bought a tree last week and have not planted it yet! Tomorrow is going to be the day! My daughter and I usually plant some flowers and herbs every year together. It's a great memory maker.
