Sign of Spring

Our first official sign of spring has arrived!!

SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION FORMS

Last summer both Emily and Matthew went to camp for the first time. It was an amazing experience for both kids, and they have been anxious for summer of 2009 to roll around so they could go again. At the end of last week the registration forms arrived. Being a returning
camper they get first crack to get their forms in, the weeks fill up pretty quickly.

The camp is Christian based run by the United Church of Canada. There is nothing fancy or elaborate about this camp, just good old fashioned fun.

Days are filled with games, crafts, swimming, nature hikes, and of course a campfire at the end of each day.

The camp was established in the 1950's and pretty much time has stood still there. They do have a new swimming pool, but other than that there aren't too many luxuries.

Mail is a pretty important part of camp. I mailed a post card to the kids each day, starting about three days before they were to start camp so they would receive mail each day. Mail is given out at lunch time, and it would of broken my heart if other kids got mail and my kids didn't.

Last year we got a letter home from Emily (it arrived after she was back home) asking for us to send her bottled water - she was thirsty at night!

I had postcards all written and stamped for Matthew to put in the mail each day, he totally forgot about them and I mailed them once he was back home.

The camp has an open house at the end of May. It gives you a chance to look around if you are new or if you are a returning camper to get re-acquainted. We can't wait to go, it is such a fun, exciting afternoon for the kids!

The memories they make at summer camp will last them their lifetime.

Good, simple FUN!

It sounds like the stuff memories are made of. How nice that you're able to send the kids every year and that they're so excited about it!

How fun! I always enjoyed camp when I was a kid, but my kids were never interested. City kids through and through, I guess. :)

We don't have summer camp in South Africa and that is such a pity because our children really miss out! I bet yours are counting the days until they go and I do look forward to hearing all about it! I really love the receiving mail - in todays technical world, our children miss out on good old fashioned values!I think it's stunning!

sounds like an awesome camp, my girls go to a Girl Scout camp each year that is pretty rustic still, they love it. Kids don;t need bells and whistles to have a blast just some good old fashion fun:-)

I remember Summer Camp, it was such a great experience for me. Being up in the mountains in all of Gods beauty was just amazing. I remember mail call and not getting any mail, ~sigh~. But I wrote to my younger brother when he went. I still have the cute letter he wrote to me. It's so funny too:) Thanks for the memories Pam. I had totally forgotten those days. (Imagine that:) I love you girl and you are such a great mom to remember the details of the heart. These are some of the wonderful things your kids will treasure in their hearts forever.

Love and Hugs, Laurie

Pam, your post took me back to the seven years that I was a camp counselor. Our camp was a little more posh that the one you're describing. It was mostly outdoors, but you could hardly say we were roughing it. Probably why I chose to keep working there every summer! J/k

I miss the summers of my youth that included summer camp, swimming and just being a kid! Summer is quite as magical now that I am an adult! Good thing I have kids!

You have completely convinced me to send Connor off to camp! He's been wanting to go for a long time, but I just have been a nervous ninny. This looks like so much fun!

Our church is putting together a camp trip this summer. Thanks for giving me the courage, Pam!

Love ya!

I never went to camp... I remember my mom asking me once if I wanted to go but she never encouraged it or explained it. I was shy because of my hearing loss, and so I avoided new situations. Still do sometimes.

Christian Camps can be such a wonderful part of our children's spiritual life. I know my kids really grew through their camp life.

My Gretch still participates in camp here in Nevada. Their camp, Potosi Pines, is owned by the UMC and although they have a camp manager, their summer camps are planned and carried out by volunteers. Gretch is doing two camps this summer, one with horses and one for girls that is an arts camp.

I am coming back out for the arts camp to do stamping with about 40 little girls. I can hardly wait.

Sounds great!! I always wanted to go to camp when I was a kid but I never got to go. Now, I think I would be too afraid to send my kiddos away to camp. :) Hopefully, they will not want to go or I will have to get over it.

I so regret not having the experience of summer camp as a kid. I think every kid, especially city kids, she have the opportunity.

When I was a kid I went to Church Camp every summer. It was VERY plain with absolutely NO bling, but I loved it and have great memories of the fun...Princess has gone to camp several times and this summer will venture out on a Mission Trip to Guatamala. This will be a whole different type of experience, I'm sure.
