ALOHA FRIDAY!!

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that they take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

Today’s question is:

When you are returning to your vehicle after shopping, are you diligent about looking in the rear of your car, as well as being aware of anyone lingering in the parking lot?

I don't know if anyone saw the 20/20 last Friday night, but it featured a story about two murders, and one attempted murder at shopping mall parking lots. The assailant was in the parked car waiting for the victim. This scares me to death, but I admit that I become lazy and I'm not always aware of my surroundings.

It is something that we need to be always thinking of and keeping our heads up. Ladies, lets remember and tell our mother, sisters, daughters, friends and neighbours to remember as well, it could save a life!!

On that note, Happy Friday Everyone!!

I DON'T USUALLY CHECK MY VEHICLE TO SEE IF THER IS SOMEONE IN THERE, BUT IF I AM LEARY OF SOMEONE NEARBY I GET STRAIGHT TO MY VEHICLE. I ALSO MAKE SURE I PUT MY HANDBAG IN THE CAR BEFORE LOADING BAGS INTO THE CAR. YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN SOMEONE WILL SNATCH IT. WHEN I WAS WORKING I SAW A LITTLE OLD LADY HAD PUSHED HER BUGGY UP TO THE BACK OF HER CAR AND LEFT HER PURSE IN THE TOP BASKET, SOME YOUNG GUYS JUST DROVE RIGHT BY AND SNATCHED IT AND DROVE OFF. SHE WANTED ME TO RUN BACK INSIDE FOR BUT I WAS NINE MONTHS PREGNANT AND BIG AS A BARRELL. SHE GOT IN THE BUILDING BEFORE ME!!!

I admit I am not good about checking my vehicle..but I try to always be aware of my surroundings.

I try to be aware of my surroundings too and I am more careful about looking in my car too. Enjoy Aloha Friday and your weekend.

I probably am not as diligent as I should be!!

I actually look in my car. Plus, it helps that I have a toddler that I have to put in his car seat. So, I instantly look into the back of the car. But, I'm really never too awfully aware of my surroundings. I guess it helps that I don't really go out at night time unless the hubby is with me.

Not nearly as diligent as I should be. I don't really check the back of my car - I kind of look around the parking lot. I am, however, extremely diligent about getting in the car, locking the doors and getting out of the parking lot as fast as possible. Especially when my kids are with me. I get in with them and lock the doors and then buckle them into their car seats. Just to be safe.

Absolutely! I grew up L.A.

Honestly, I don't look in my car. I should though as a precaution because you never know! Thanks for the reminder!!

Momstart said...

I don't anymore, if I'm out at night though, I carry my keys in a way that if someone came at me I can jab them with the sharp end of the key. If I have my kids, I'm not as careful

Thank you for posting this, I will be more careful.

Living in South Africa, we have been trained to be aware of whats going on around you at all times! Even when stopped at a traffic light, or stop street, I look in my mirrors and around all the time. We're very careful!

i always park at the area near the guard so i am not that cautious eh...

yes, I grew up in LA. I always make sure my keys are in hand and my purse and I scan the underside of the car, then open the back of the van first. Then if all is clear, we get in and lock the doors immediately.

I hear those stories and I look in the very back of my SUV for awhile, then I forget. The only time I'm alone is when I go to the gym at night. I need to pay more attention to my surroundings.

Lori @ The Downs Gang said...

nope not at all I know I should be though

Sarah said...

I don't look although I usually have a bunch of kids with me so we cover all areas of the car :)

I'm not good at this, but I do peek in my car before I put the boys in the backseat. I don't go out of my way to search out lurkers in the parking lot, but I am aware of my surroundings

Abby said...

I am pretty good about that. I am a pretty big worry wart.

Great advice! That stuff is so scary. I am usually VERY aware of my surroundings. But, I don't always think to look right in the vicinity of my vehicle. I do make a habit of trying to get right into my car and quickly locking all the doors.

I'm pretty aware of my surroundings. I've encountered scary people enough to know better. I always look inside my car and even on the outside of my car before I get in.

I am very nervous about stuff like that and I always try to be aware of my surroundings, and look in the car. I guess you can say I am a bit paranoid and always make a habit of checking the back set, getting into the car quickly, locking the doors. But as you would agree, having children and parcels make this process all a bit more slower. Happy Friday!

I am fairly diligent and have tried to teach my teens that are driving to do the same. Thanks for the reminder.

yeah i do

Yes, I'm a paranoid old grandma!!
Actually I'm very seldom without my husband so we'd both end up goners. :)

Jennifer said...

Yes, I do. =)

Happy Aloha Friday!

No, I am not so aware, but I DO lock the doors the SECOND I get in, does that count? lol

MOMMY-MOMO said...

oh this scares me! I thought i did, but now i'm going to be more serious about it!

Laurie in Ca. said...

Yep, I sure do check and especially now that I have the grandkiddos. I was mugged about 30 years ago and got my face smashed in and nose broke. I have never forgotten that night. It scared me straight!!:) Love you girl. Have a fantastic weekend as we wait for Spring together.

Love and Hugs, Laurie

Yes. I actually do check, mainly at night. I think I can see inside my car pretty well during the day. I've read enough reader's digest articles to be pretty paranoid in a parking lot. I wish all the mean-scary-dangerous people in this world would just move to an island and bother each other. Why do they have to pick on innocent people?

blueviolet said...

I think for me it probably depends on where I am, what time of day, etc. That's probably lazy to do it that way though and certainly no guarantee of safety. Thanks for the reminder.

Bee and Rose said...

In addition to being a germ freak, I am horribly paranoid..lol! I check under the car, in the car, on top of the car...I am ridiculous!

I have been slacked on this since the holidays are over...but reading this makes me realize we dont need a holiday to make us more aware of our surroundings...

TheAngelForever said...

Yes, I tend to look around as much as I can (harder with two kids in tow). Since I was in college and started being out on my own I became on the paranoid side of watching other people, especially those that linger in parking lots.

jen@odbt said...

I do. My car's interior lights turn on when I hit the unlock button. I hate that we have to be so paranoid these days but one can never be too careful.

sheila said...

YES! I look more like a weirdo than the weirdos! ha ha ha. I feel like I am pretty aware of my surroundings...and especially conscious of my purse! Never leave it in the cart or in the back of the car when loading groceries. I saw someone get robbed that way once.

Emily White said...

Honestly, no. From time to time I get that nervous creepy feeling... and that makes me check, but I guess I stand by the theory I would rather NOT know!!

Meredith said...

If I'm by myself, I'm very aware of my surroundings. If my kiddos are with me, I'm just trying to keep them from running in front of car! As far as checking the backseat? Never thought to... Yikes! Scary!

Jennifer said...

Yes, always.

Jenni Jiggety said...

I try to be hyper-aware of other people in the lot, but I am not as good as I should be about checking the back of the car.

Yaya said...

I am good about checking the rear of my car before getting in.

HeatherY said...

In the town we live in now, I'm not as paranoid. When I lived in Savannah, I was very vigilant (not to mention I worked with some not so law abiding citizens).

kimgepper said...

I'm pretty bad about that! THanks for the reminder!

shopannies said...

if there is anyone in the parking lot it is normaly people we know and talk to. If there is anyone out there that is odd we often tell the management because where we live it is different than most places we are rural enough to know each other

LittlePeopleWealth said...

I always check!

This is an easy question for me. Since my stroke--I no longer am able to drive :( Bummer, I know. But, I just try to look at it this way...I try to think of it as I now have a full time chauffeur (snort!!)

But WHEN I was driving I was always diligent about checking!!
