Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that they take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

Today’s question is:

When your child is invited to a birthday party for a classmate, how much do you spend?

I seem to be spending about $30.00, do you think that is too much? Things are expensive if you want to give them something other than dollar store junk.

We spend around $30-$35 especially if we know the parents give take-home gift bags that cost as much as the gifts received. (laughing)

Wow! I don't even spend that much for my best girlfriends! We usually do about $25. For a classmate or a child, I would do maybe $15. Seems like you can get cheaper things for kids.

Usually $ 20 is my limit, Hugs Lisa

I would do around 15, hit the sales. and stock up if you have the room. KB Toy stores is going out of business. I stocked up.

Tara said...

Hmm.. I love sales.. so it really just depends what treasures I find lol

Cat@3KidsandUs said...

We limit to $20, usually just a gift card.

Alicia said...

Well, it depends on how good of a friend they are to my child. If they are a close friend, the better stuff they get..LOL!!

It's usually $30 for us too by the time you do the gift, wrapping and card!

Aloha!

20-30 depends on who it is!

I try not to spend more than $15 on non family members. I try to stock up on gift items at sale times. For instance - crayons or colored pencils can be bought for pennies during back to school time. Combine with a coloring or activity book and a regular book and you have a very nice gift,

janetfaye said...

I would probably spend around $20.

I'm like some of the others - I try to catch the 'sale' items early on to give out as gifts. I try to spend 10-15 on non-family members. I have three boys as it is, it gets expensive! LOL

Lori said...

my little guy is too young for school, but we've spent about $20 on the gifts for the parties he's gone to. I think it would depend on how well we know the person

Mighty M said...

We probably spend $25-$35. Happy Friday!

Jacki said...

It depends on how well we know the people. Kids I don't know at all get a small giftcard, if it is a child we know well, then we get them something nice, but never over like $25.

I usually try to stay in the $15 range.

For the most part, I try to stay within $15-20. If it's a good family friend then I will go up to $30. Another idea for a gift is to give an "outing with your child" - take the bday child to the movies or a sleepover. Memories are priceless.

Totally w/ the group that shops the sales! I do try to spend $15 - 20 but that is usually the sale price, lol!

For family members or close friends we'll spend more.

It just depends on what my son wants to buy the kid. Usually between $30 and $50 though.

We homeschool, so I don't have to wrestle with the whole buying something for a child I don't know very well. We spend about $20 on friends birthdays. But, if something's on sale, I don't go buy something else just to get to $20! If I had to buy something for classmates all the time, I would probably go with around $10. I don't know about everyone else, but I think kids get too many toys and junk at parties these days. Sometimes we just buy a nice t-shirt and leave it at that - it's easy to do that with $10! Girls love clothes and moms appreciate it too!

$30 bucks? Wow you're the cool mom. My limit is $15. MAX. The more kids you get, the more birthdays there are to attend and I just can't justify spending a ton on presents-- when they are inviting the whole class.

My daughter went to a party where the girls were asked to not bring presents, but bring a new book that they then donated to the local Women's shelter. I LOVE that idea!

I usually spend about $15, maybe $20. I like to look for toys in my son's age range when they go on clearance and stock up a little! Last week he had 3 birthday parties to go to, and I had nothing left in my "stash", so I was glad that Target had 75% off on toys then! :)

As far as the profoundlyseth site... did you try clicking on the button on my sidebar or the button in my post about him? Hm... let me know if you still can't get there. I'll re-check my links, too. Sorry about that! I'm not sure if it will post here or not, but I'll try:

$20 used to be my limit if I remember correctly.

We're past that point but I think $15-$20 was about what we spent.

Sarah said...

Around here, it depends on how well we know the child/family we're buying for. For kids of really close friends we might spend $25-30, but otherwise I'd say $15-20. I also try to hit sales and clearance to get nice gifts while saving mone, otherwise it can really add up.

Tasha said...

wow, I usually stick around $15-$20 for presents.

TheAngelForever said...

We usually spend $20, not including the card and items to wrap the gift in. Of course this is for kids that are classmates and not family friends. For closer friends we probably spend a little more. Times are tough and when there are a lot of parties you can only do so much.

Alicia said...

Yikes! $30 will add up! I go for a $10-$15 range because I also have to take into acct that it will get bumped up with wrap/gift bag/card. Hopefully, I'm thinking ahead enough where I have time to wrap it! The know this really sounds cheap, but several presents tend to be a $9.99 & $11.99 price, and if one of them really fits what the child wants then I go with it. (I should maybe also say, my 1st born is only in Kinder.)

Kelley said...

I spend around $20.00.
Have a great weekend!

Sarah said...

I will go up to $20 but usually have things stocked up from a sale so spend much less for more expensive stuff.

Lana said...

Wow! For non family friends, I spend $10-$15 max. If I can't find a decent gift for that, they get a gift card.

Jennifer said...

Wow, $30 for a child's gift? I need to invite you to my birthday party! We usually spend $10, well now mine are older and do not attend birthday parties, but when they did it was $10.

Jenni Jiggety said...

I spend usually 15-20 dollars!

La Familia Garcia said...

WOW, I was thinking the same thing, to invite you to our parties. haha...I don't go over $10.00. We stock up sometimes at target in the dollar section when we see something my kids like, I know if they like it then so will their friend. We usually throw together a grab bag of sorts for example: they had tons of starwars things, we bought a starwars bag, stickers, notebook, markers all for $1. They have different kids themes like hello kitty alot too. Just an idea. I'm also a fan of classic kids books, espcially if I dont know the child very well.

1stopmom said...

I try not to go over $10 but then I am cheap. Plus I buy stuff throughout the year that is on clearance. I put it into my just in case pile. I have given gifts that are regularly priced at $25 and up but I only paid like $3.00.

ParentingPink said...

Great question! I've often wondered the answer to this one myself!

I usually spend between $15-20. I think that's reasonable. But sometimes I find a really great sale on an expensive toy & stock up for future bday parties. I can save more that way.

Tim and Vicky said...

I'm such an internet buyer, I buy more for less. $15 bucks max.

3 Bay B Chicks said...

Wow! What a great question prompt. It seems your responses really run the gambit too. Everything from $15 on up. I would have to agree with you, though. Somewhere in the $30 range is usually about right. I can get it down to $20/$25 if I am shopping at Target, but not always!

For a classmate?
$10 or $15 is plenty.
Happy Aloha Friday!

I always try to spend around $20. I shop at tj maxx, tuesday morning, and other stores like that to get more bang for my buck. :)

Jill (Sneaky Momma) said...

I would try spend around the same amount on the birthday child that they spent on mine. :)
Right now $25 is what we spend on the girls' cousins' birthday presents.

CallansMama said...

My child is not at that age yet, but I would say $30 is a lot. I guess I don't know.

Nancy said...

I try not to spend more than 20 bucks. If we cant find a gift for 20 dollars or less, then we give the child our standard gift: a 20 dollar gift card to Target.

shopannies said...

I would consider $30 unless you are a person who knows these children personally. I would say $10 would be plenty.

Kelly said...

Well it seems like you got your answer.. it looks like 30 dollars is pretty generous.
