Should of stayed in bed.....

One day last week the sun was shining, the sky was blue and I thought what a perfect day to go for a drive and get some winter pictures.

If you follow the river south out of town you end up on a quiet country road that parallels the river. I have driven out there a few times before and remembered that the scenery is beautiful and untouched. So, Jillian and I dropped off Matthew at school, we ran home to grab the camera and headed out to do a mini photo shoot.

I drove out a long this country stretch of road. We stopped and got a few pictures. The sun was bright but it was cold. I pulled the van toward the side of the road to swing around and do a u-turn and make my way back into town.

When this happened.....

I immediately felt the van pull toward the ditch and tried to back up to rock myself out. But, it was not going to be. I was stuck. The more I tried to get myself out the worse it got.

Not much time passed and a couple of good citizens stopped to try to push me out. They pushed from the front and told me to floor it in reverse. This just sent me further into the rut. After a couple of minutes they decided they were unable to get me out. They asked if I had a cell phone.
NO, I didn't, they were nice enough to let me use theirs. I called 411 and got connected to a local garage with a tow truck. The garage told me they would be a long in fifteen minutes.

I thanked the two nice men telling them they did their good deed for the day. They had to get back to work, and told me they would check to make sure I got out when they were on their way home later that afternoon.

Sixty minutes later and several other considerate people later the tow truck showed up. Most people that passed me came back to ask me if I was okay and if I needed help. The tow truck took about sixty seconds to have me pulled out.

All the while we waited Jillian was so good, she didn't cry or whine. She just sat in her car seat and was quiet. When he pulled me out she enthusiastically yelled Yay!!

Fifty dollars later we were back in our driveway.

My faith in the human race is renewed. The people who stopped to check on me took time out of their day and I appreciate it so much. I will remember and pay it forward.

Good thing those people came and had a cell phone!
You hear so many negative stories, that when stuff like this happens to you, you don't know WHAT to expect! Glad everything turned out well!

People who do a nice deed have no idea the chain of effect it has. Your little one saw people's kindness, & she will see your kindness when you pay it forward, and whoever receives your kindness will be effected and it just goes on and on. People are generally good :))))

Thank you for sharing :)

Oh you poor things! And what a good girl Jillian was. Stories like this build up our faith in human kind. I always like hearing them!
I LOVE the snow by the way - BRRRRRRR!

On the bright side, you did get a few lovely winter pictures and anything that renews your faith in the human race is a very good thing. However, where was your cell phone? I have to admit that I have definitely had similar things happen to me!

You're so brave to venture out. I'm a big chicken when it comes to driving in snow but I guess in Canada, you have no choice. That is nice to hear about so many considerate people. Pay it forward.

That was nice of those people to stop. I know what it is like to be in a ditch like that. It happened to me more than once when I lived in Wisconsin. Your photos are beautiful. And what a blessing to have such a nice and patient little girl! I know if it were me my kids would be noisy, antsy, and terrible.
